There's a reason why despite being 2000 years old, the Method of Loci is not often used. It is because apart from helping with memorizing speeches, grocery lists, and playing cards, it's not that helpful in situations like school where the information you need to memorize is more abundant and complex. That said, this doesn't mean that it's unusable, it's just that it need an update. Here's how we are modernizing the method of loci.

In the previous article, I mentioned that one of the reasons why the Method of Loci works so well is because it leverages our spatial memory, but some of the problems that this runs into is that it's hard to see the entire memory palace and when you are reviewing it, you don't get feedback so you don't know if you got it right or not.

The way that we are fixing these problems is by moving the memory palace from being in your head to being on an infinite canvas. By using the Method of Loci on an infinite canvas, you still get to keep the advantages of using your spatial memory because instead of putting facts at a locus in your memory palace, you can put the concepts in a fixed spatial coordinate on the infinite canvas. This also comes with the advantage that since you've externalized the memory canvas, you can see it in its entirety in your browser. Since you can see it all at once, it also becomes a lot easier to review as you can quickly check if you've forgotten anything.

Another reason that the Method of Loci works so well is because it use elaborative encoding to turn boring facts into images that are easier to remember. We take this principle and make it even better by giving you the ability to turn your imaginations into reality right on the canvas using AI. So then, not only will you be able to encode the information, but you will be able to see it in all of its glory.

After you visualize the fact and place it on the infinite canvas, the app will automatically take each image and turn it into a flashcard so that you can review it later much easier. Rather than having to walk through your memory palace and review it all at once, with flashcards, you can just review the parts that need more work. This also has the added benefit in that if a part of the memory palace is not working for you, then you can just reimagine it.

Some future features that we have planned are the ability to share and search through other people's creations. It can get tiresome to have to imagine something from nothing. Drawing inspiration from others shared creations can help jumpstart your imagination and make the process much easier.
