How Tags Work

This makes it so that people can pursue their individual pursuits while at the same time coordinating with others without having to give up one’s agency.

In the create to learn system, the first part is to create variations of your ideas or memes. The second part is where you select for the best meme. The way to do this would be to either select the meme that solves the problem or select for the meme that survives the criticisms the best.

In selecting for the meme that solves the problem, you can do this solo because you can easily get feedback from whether or not it solves the problem. When selecting for memes through criticism, it can be helpful to get another person's point of view. To help with this, part of what we are building at Idealite is a community because the selection part of the create to learn system is just as important as the creating part.

In building a community, there needs to be a way to coordinate with one another, but this introduces the problem that collective action needs enforcement. This would eventually lead back to the same problem with education and edtech apps where there is no exploration for the user because the coordination mechanisms are too rigid. We are not trying to return to this model, and instead are trying to balance the community aspect with individual pursuit.

The way we are doing this is through having two sets of tags: master tags and personal tags. The master set of tags are tags that are shared between everyone. These tags are used to coordinate people. The way that a tag gets added to the master set of tags is completely bottoms up in that once enough people have added the same personal tag, that tag will be added to the master tags. This makes it so that people can pursue their individual pursuits while at the same time coordinating with others without having to give up one’s agency.
